Tomorrow night, Saturday July 22, I'll be playing at Joe's Pub with Elysian Fields, a trio show, just me, Oren and Jennifer.
Monday night, @ the Cake Shop, a show that was described thusly by Shannon Fields, of Stars Like Fleas:
Some friends and I will be playing a semi-improv show at Cake Shop this Monday at 8:00 as part of Robert Stillman’s Rarities series this month which has featured sides/solos/rarities from members of Grizzly Bear, Parts & Labor, Feathers, and Flying. And us. Good month. We will be called the Lymph Hockey Ensemble and will split into two opposing teams. Team A is jazz musician and composer Charles Waters of Gold Sparkle Band (etc) fame. He will bring forth a chamber ensemble rumored to contain bassoon, french horn, flute, trombone, clarinet, or some such lethal stew. In addition to improvisation they will have in their arsenal a sheaf of Waters’ compositions with which to do soft, beautiful damage. Team B is me (laptop, guitar, glockenspiel); Shelley Burgon (harp, laptop) who plays with Stars Like Fleas, Trevor Dunn and many other rockstars/composers/soothsayers; and Fleas’/Doveman’s Sam Amidon (fiddle, banjo, mouth) and Thomas Bartlett (whatever he damn well wants to is what he’ll play). Seriousness, silliness, chaos, and Gary Numan covers may potentially abound. It’s hard to say. Really we just want to hang out with our friends and make music without any hoopla, and those friends include you. Headlining the evening is Robert Stillman’s Horses who are very farging great (http://www.millpondrecords.com/?pageID=41 ).
